TITLE: Teacher – Elementary Music/Choir
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide general music and choral music experiences and instruction, which includes singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening, that will lead the elementary student to a positive attitude toward music, and a better understanding of music and greater skill in expressing music.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor Degree
- Arizona Elementary or Secondary Certification with Music endorsement
- SEI or Bilingual or ESL endorsement
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach skills in singing, playing, listening, reading, moving and writing
- Teach knowledge of musical elements, expression, structure, and historical and cultural aspects of music.
- Create an effective environment that leads to the development of positive attitudes in, awareness of, and response to musical elements; conscious building of good self-concepts; willingness to use knowledge to perform and to explore and create musical ideas.
- Develop lesson plans, instructional activities and materials based on district goals and curriculum.
- Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community. Participate in district-wide festivals, and honor programs. Cooperate with school administration in providing programs for school productions, and civic functions.
- Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of district and school owned instruments. Control the storage and use of equipment and materials; make minor repairs and request further repairs to instruments as required.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities and collaborates with colleagues as necessary.
- Participate in school and district meetings, committees and workshops as appropriate.
- Apply knowledge of state and district policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
