TITLE: School Bus Driver
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Operate a school bus over designated routes within an established time schedule; transport students to and from school and on special trips in a safe manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
- Must be at least 18 years of age with at least 1 year driving experience and a clean driving record
- Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, an Arizona State Commercial Driver’s License
- Must possess a State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Successfully pass physical agility test and District certification in Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention, CPR and First Aid
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transport students to and from school and on special event trips in a safe manner.
- Conduct detailed pre- and post-trip inspection of the bus; check and monitor the condition of the bus, ensure it is safe to operate.
- Keep bus clean inside and out; sweep and mop floors, and clean windows to ensure good visibility.
- Pick up and deliver students curb side in appropriate manner.
- Interact with students, maintaining good student/driver relationship; maintain order and ensure safety and comfort of students.
- Complete misconduct forms if necessary and prepare accident or injury reports.
- Educate and conduct bus evacuation drills for regular and special education students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Knowledge of safe driving practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle and traffic laws.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR procedures and other emergency procedures.
- Knowledge of safety and maintenance requirements of bus and other student transportation equipment.
- Knowledge of the safe operations of various wheelchairs and other types of mobility devices.
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to assist children with limited ability on and off the school bus.
- Ability to manage students with various disabilities to include physical and mental impairments in emotional situations.
- Ability to make quick decisions, related to a child’s health and well-being.
- Ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger, Air Brake, and School Bus and Endorsements.
- Ability to obtain Department of Public Safety School Bus Certification.
- Ability to pass Department of Transportation Physical and/or annual and random drug screens and alcohol testing.
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Ability to obtain a Department of Public Safety Classroom and Behind the Wheel instructor certification.
- Ability to deal rationally with school aged children.
