TITLE:   School Safety Officer (0.5 Shamley/0.5 Ward)

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Provide assistance to the administrative staff in dealing with disciplinary issues on campus. Patrol campus grounds.  Maintain school rules and regulations.  Monitor campus for fires, vandals and potential unsafe conditions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED
  2. One (1) year directly related experience in the area of security or law enforcement
  3. State of Arizona Identity Verified (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
  4. Obtain and maintain NCI, CPR, and 1st Aid training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor students throughout the day and escort students to and from class or to the administrative office as required.
  • Detain students that are unauthorized to be out of class and process discipline referrals.
  • Coordinate peer mediations for students.
  • Search students for weapons, drugs and other contraband as required.
  • Serve on school discipline and safety committees. 
  • Patrol school grounds, and stop unauthorized visitors and direct to administrative offices.
  • Make rounds of building to ensure safety.
  • Maintain rules and regulations of district and school.
  • Monitor campus for unusual activity, fire, vandals, suspicious persons, etc.
  • Maintain safety precautions.
  • Photograph students for school ID card.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Skill handling conflicts among students
  • Skill maintaining school rules
  • Skill monitoring a campus for potential safety issues
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time
